Immortal used Nokia 6250 phone | Not many of us mortals have a use for waterproof membranes, shock absorbers and internal cushioning on our phone, there's certainly a use for them somewhere. We dropped the 6250 from 4 metres and it was unscathed, and supposedly it can withstand a quick dip of up to 0.5 m in the bath. Also included is a remarkably sensitive sound meter, so you can know how loud you're surroundings are. Nokia has cleverly built in an automatic volume control to compensate for background noise, obviously with regard to those wishing to use next to pneumatic drills and the like. They've also played with the battery monitor slightly, giving a remarkably accurate 7-bar meter.
WAP version 1.1 is standard, so it's compatible with service settings from the 6210 and 7110. WAP browsing is much the same as the 6210, with graphics being as good and navigating much the same. Infrared is included for data support up to 14.4 kps, and dual band GSM900/1800 is standard.
Overall, the 6250 is simply a beefed up 6210. It's performance is adequate for rugged situations, and it certainly offers a more stylish solution than Ericsson or Motorola have managed. But it's certainly not for those who wear a suit to work- a combination of bulkiness and awkwardness makes it a nightmare for day-to-day use. Some good features for those who need them, and way ahead of it's class in design.
PS: for our experiments we got our Nokia 6250 at Cell Chaos for $47 (best price for today).
